On the evening of the 21st, a gathering of hoods, gangsters, flappers, dolls and "entrepreneurs" gathered at Joey's Speakeasy to solve the murder of the "beloved" Mayor Hadditcoming. It was an evening full of fun, food, friends and dare I say MURDER????

Everett the politician

We often joke about Everett having my personality: he is incredibly stubborn, sneaky and no form of punishment seems to faze him. I recently discovered another thing we share:POLITICS. Lately when I ask him what he wants to watch he says, "I wanna watch a Mommy show. Watch seen and enn". Initially I put it on because I thought he was being silly, but he actually likes it. I don't let him watch it for long because it can get depressing and new is skewed anyway, but it is fun to watch him point out political figures and news anchors. Once he likened Wolf Blitzer to Santa. (Sorry buddy, he's Jewish.)
He is doing much better with world leaders than his big brother. When we were watching the inauguration, I told the boys "That is our new President. His name is President Obama". Tracy gave me a disconcerted stare and asked, "What about President Monson?" He also asked if the parade of Senators were Apostles.
Silly boys.

The Joys of Little Boys...
Recently we played musical chairs with the rooms in our house. We are pretty much done, but there are a few details left to tackle. One of these things is putting a lock on our new office door. When I got out of the shower the other day I was welcomed by two very colorful little boys.....
Tracy painted his face as venom and Everett's as "PooPoo Panda" (Po Panda from Kung-Fu Panda actually). The cute thing is Tracy colored on a soul patch like his Uncle Mike whom he adores. The not so cute thing is he got to sport it at church the next day because it wouldn't wash off. It was one of those moments I had to decide whether or not to scream or laugh. I chose the latter. Life is short and Tracy was very proud of his work.

Mom Remembered
Today marks eight years since my mother died. I have been asked to speak in Young Women's tomorrow about experiences I have had which made me draw closer to my Heavenly Father and I felt VERY strongly to share the story of my mom. I am not one to share my deep personal feelings but after writing my talk I realized I never wrote my experience in a journal and that I needed to. Don't feel obligated to read it, but if you do, I hope it touches you somehow. We all have pain in this life, but through that pain we find joy. Here goes.....
After knowing each other just a couple of months, Mike and I were engaged. I picked out a dress, we had pictures taken, and set the date for March 10th, 2001. We went about our lives, working, going to school, sharing our joyous plans with friends and family. One day, while meeting at my car at the U for a quick “hello” between classes one September afternoon, I suddenly had a very deep, strong burning in my heart. I told Mike I felt we should move up the Wedding date. Being a man, he had NO problem with that. He even suggested we get married in October. We told our families and in the beginning they were hesitant. My mom thought it was because we were spending too much time alone together. ;) We moved the photographer, the Temple, and all other arrangements to January 3rd. I didn’t know why I felt this need to move up the Wedding- especially because I hate snow and cold and the last thing I wanted was a winter wedding. But, I felt at peace about my decision and knew it was the right thing to do.
That November, my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. From the day of her diagnosis she went downhill very quickly. Rather than shop for bridesmaid dresses with her daughter, my mother went to chemotherapy and took medicine that made her ill. My mom never let on that she was sick. She hid it from friends and neighbors for as long as she could. She went on taking care of her family, upholding her church responsibilities and trying to appear happy. No matter how sick doctors told her she was, she kept up the hope that she would overcome her illness.
Mike and I were married as planned in January. It was a beautiful winter day at the Bountiful Temple and I remember as I was in the ceiling room thinking “this must be what heaven is like”. Our family and friends all joined together celebrating and smiling. We had the luncheon and the reception and it was simply a perfect day. My mom was by my side and got to have all her closest friends see her looking radiant and proud.
One month later, on February 7th, I was by her side as she left this life. It was one of the most spiritual experiences I have ever had. It was strangely beautiful and peaceful. I felt surrounded by love and I knew we were not alone. The next few days I was carried by the Lord. I never thought that soon after I had planned the happiest day of my life I would be planning a funeral for my mother. I was afforded great strength and was even able to sing at her funeral. At the grave site I remember turning to two of my best girlfriends and saying, “is it weird that I feel happy?” I wasn’t happy that my mom was gone, but I knew she was okay and that I would be okay. I knew this because I have a testimony. I know I will be with her again. What a comfort it is to have the knowledge of an eternal family.
At her viewing a man came up to me and introduced himself as our new Bishop. Mike and I had only been married for a few weeks and had spent our Sundays taking the sacrament in the hospital with my mother. I still don’t know how he knew about my mother’s passing. That night there were cupcakes on our front steps from my new visiting teachers. I felt such an overwhelming sense of love and comfort. The Lord had touched me through the kindness of a bishop and sisters I had never before met. You never know the meaning of even the smallest gestures we make to someone in need. The memory of those cupcakes on my porch still fills me with love.
It has been exactly eight years since my mother died and I still miss her. I am so grateful that I was able to know her for 20 years, that I was able to learn from her example and that the Lord prompted me to move up our wedding date. If we had waited until March my mother wouldn’t have been there to help my put on my white dress and watch her daughter married in the Temple. I am grateful that I was living the Gospel so that I could hear the promptings of the spirit telling me to move up the date. I am grateful I heeded to the promptings because I am stubborn and most often do things my own way. No matter how sad I feel and how much I miss her, I am grateful the Lord waited a month to call her home.
At the cemetery visiting Grandma with Mike and Melody. I am sad my mom will never know my children in this life and that I cannot lean on her for advice. I KNOW I will see her again and I KNOW she is near. I have felt her presence and know she watches over my babies. I think she also gave them pointers in heaven as to how to drive me insane. Some of the things they do are a little too similar to things I did in my childhood.....
Okay, so I just read through to look for typos and realized when I said we met for a quick "hello" it sounds like we met for a booty call. I will have to revise it for my talk but I will leave it for y'all to imagine any way you choose. ;)

Crib Bandit
Now I know cribs have been designed to keep babies IN. So, what does a parent do to keep an older brother OUT? Everett loves to sneak into Summer's crib and lay with her, play with her toys, jump around, pick his nose......whatever. He is very sweet with her and she actually enjoys his company, but I don't want her bed to become an ultimate fighting arena.

WINTER WONDERLAND

On Grandpa's birthday he took us tubing at Soldier Hollow. Getting out in the snow makes me LOVE winter and truly appreciate living in Utah. We have it all, don't we? It was a beautiful day and we basically had the hill to ourselves. This enabled us to do run after run after run.....thank goodness for the rope tow or we would have been exhausted.
I have been bummed lately because we haven't had a chance to go boarding yet, so this definitely lifted my spirits. Especially because we were able to share it with the kids. Although Summer was too little to go down the hill, she enjoyed being pulled around in the mini tube by Trace. Kids are so cute bundled up to the point they can no longer move. (Maybe that is what I love about them being bundled?)I cannot wait for the day we can all go skiing together. Thanks again papa.

Cryo-Creamery

Some of our best friends introduced us to the tastiest treat. It is called SUB ZERO ICE CREAM and it is FANTASTIC! This is coming from a girl who does not even like ice cream. Luckily it is in Orem, because it is so delicious I crave it all the time and my waistline would quickly expand. Check them out. It is a unique, fun and YUMMY experience.

6 Months of Summer
I know it sounds cliche but WHERE DOES THE TIME GO? Summer is 6 months old now and I cannot believe it.
She has brought so much happiness and fun to our family. She has the sweetest little smile and a contagious laugh. I keep expecting the boys to get bored with her, but everyday the first thing they want to do is give her kisses. They are both wrapped around her finger. She is the family peacemaker too. Whenever the boys are fighting, yelling, tattling -WHATEVER- as soon as Summy enters the room Trace and Ev run to her and want to feed her, play with her, tell her a joke, sing her a song, or just tell her how much they love her.
She is eating solid food and sitting up by herself (though sometimes not for long), saying "Mamma", scooting on her back, reaching for EVERYTHING and growing like crazy. Her favorite things are her brothers, her feet (they are usually in her mouth), her Cabbage Patch doll, cars (I guess that is what happens when you have two big brothers.), her fluffy blanket, and food. She is very talented at blowing raspberries and spitting up all over-ugh.
I love to watch my children's personalities develop, but the older they get the more I realize how quickly time is passing. My babies aren't going to babies forever.......

See Any Familiar Faces?
That was our family's latest five seconds of fame. Kind of cheesy but a lot of fun. The boys kept saying they were movie stars all day when we filmed. Now, I don't think they even remember doing it.
TOP 10 OF 2008
So I copied this idea from my friend Alicia. I am terrible at keeping a journal so blogging is for my posterity. :)
Top 10 of 2008 (Not in any particular order.)
1. Adding Summer Daisy to our family. She is such a loved little girl. I love to watch the boys dote over her.
2. The Burtons and Randalls moving back to Utah-FINALLY!
3. Going to the Monster Truck finals in Las Vegas with the boys. I know we are totally ghetto but we love those big, loud crazy trucks.
4. Helping Tracy learn to read even if he now asks questions such as "What is an adult book store?" Kids grow so fast. It is fascinating to watch it happen.
5. Coaching Tracy's soccer team. Even if I was eight months pregnant and Tracy hated it, it was a fun experience.
6. Watching Everett's HUGE personality come out of his little body. He has a way of making making you smile even when he is telling you "no mommy". It just sounds so adorable in his little voice it is hard to get mad.
7. St. George/Vegas with the girls. It was a fun weekend of reminiscing, staying up late, the price is right and lots of food!
8. Finally becoming a sheep in the reality TV world and discovering So You Think You Can Dance. When I was on bed rest Mike and I became obsessed. We even paid to see them when they came to SLC and it was GREAT!
9.Going to the New Kids on the Block concert. That's right.
10. Discovering the worlds of blogging and Face book and reconnecting with friends.

Let's do Another one Papa!
Tracy was so sad when we told them he wasn't going over to my parents' on New Years so they slept over the next night. Tracy ended up being sick and throwing up all night but that's another story. Mindy Made this.
