Sleepless in Midvale

I was really hoping that I would be the only member of our family with sleep issues, but lately Everett has been waking up MULTIPLE TIMES during the night SCREAMING! At first I thought maybe he was just having a bad dream from watching Batman cartoons or something, but after a week I realized something was wrong. I talked to our Pediatrician and sure enough Ev has night terrors. I told the Doc we don't let him watch very scary things but he said it usually doesn't even have to do with that. Apparently it has more to do with a common underlying anxiety about abandonment or something. He also said it may last for a few more YEARS!I feel so bad for him. He just screams and doesn't know what is going on. I usually have to wake him and then rub his back till he falls asleep and wakes up an hour later. Poor little dude. Between his night terrors and Summy teething I have had plenty of company during those wee hours of the night/morning. Whether I want the company or not.

Oh man... lately Jake has been doing the same thing. Isn't my kid too young for this kind of thing?
Poor Everett.

Poor guy! I haven't experienced the night terrors with my boys, but they kinda freak me out -- I'm hoping we can avoid them. Good luck.....

Call me. I've got some really effective interventions for this. Its not as uncommon as you may think.

And yes, Alicia, Jake is too young for this kind of thing. They typically occur from ages 3 and up.

Poor little guy. That sucks. . .for you and Everett. I hope Fi never has that problem.

jack had those too, but he grew out of them after about a year. He was impossible to calm down. It was like he was sleep screaming. Im sorry your having to go thru that. It sucks even worse when they get your baby off schedule by waking them up with their screaming

I am glad I am not the only one who has dealt with this. His Pediatrician said it was common but the only person I have known with it is in her 50's. Unfortunately she STILL has them. I am glad Jack grew out of them. They are scary.

Aw - sorry to hear about Ev - what a sad story! Hope he works it out. If it makes you feel any better, I know it's really common and they supposedly don't remember a thing. (you will though - that's so rough!)

Poor kid, that can't be fun. Raina cries in her sleep all the time. You totally depressed me with the eating thing. If Raina isn't eating when she is 5, I don't know if I can handle it. (I think they can do therapy on a 5 year old, is he really that bad??)
